About Home Permit Guide

Home Permit Guide helps homeowners answer one question fast: does my project need a permit, and what happens next?

What We Do

We cover the five home projects people most often ask about (roofing, HVAC, solar, fences and decks) in 15 US cities. For each, we read the permit office's own rules, summarise them in plain English and link the source. We pair every rule with real permit records from the city's open data portal, so you can see how often neighbours pull the same permit.

Who We Are

Home Permit Guide is an independent publisher. We are not a government agency, a law firm or a contractor, and we are not affiliated with any city.

Placeholder Our named reviewer profile is being added. Until then, pages are maintained by the Home Permit Guide editorial team and every rule links to its official source.

How We Make Money

Homeowners can ask us to connect them with up to three local contractors, and contractors can join a waitlist for permit lists. This never changes what a rule page says.
